AMERICAN SERB LODGE # 37, S.N.F.
The
Lodge is the oldest organization in our Steelton Community, predating the
formation of the Church by one year. On June 1, 1902 the first Lodge
under the name, St. Nicholas was organized. Five months later the
St. Nicholas Lodge purchased the ground where the first St. Nicholas Church
of Steelton stood. Throughout its history, the local Lodge as we
know it today was actually several smaller organizations that merged into
one. At one time there existed the St. Nicholas Lodge, St. Stevan
Lodge, Braca Yugovich Lodge, Sloga Lodge, St. George Lodge and the Michael
Pupin Lodge in Steelton.
The
Lodge continues to take an active role in our church community and its
members were and are the leaders of our congregation. In 1939 it
purchased pews in our old church on South Second Street. In our church
today, the stained glass window of Christ The Teacher was donated by the
lodge in remembrance of their deceased members. In addition, they
donated the American Flag, Serbian Church Flag and the State
Flag that are located in front of our Iconostas.
Our local Lodge has always participated in national affairs and our delegates
to conventions were recognized for their work and qualifications by being
elected to various positions on the national level. According to
records from the Home Office the following members of our local lodge have
served and are serving today on the National Board.

Our
local Lodge hosted, according to records, the Convention of 1905 in Harrisburg,
PA. We have also hosted, in conjunction with our Church community
several bowling tournaments in 1963, 1968, 1982 and the latest being the
56th Annual Bowling Tournament in October of 2001.
In November of 2002, 100 years after purchasing the ground for our first
church, our local lodge celebrated its centennial with a banquet honoring
its 50-year members. Today we congratulate our Church community on
their 100th Anniversary and look forward to our continued relationship
as we begin the next 100 years together.
